Planet of the Apes is a media franchise comprising seven films (one a remake, one a reboot), two television series (one animated), and various comic books. The series began with the 1968 science fiction film Planet of the Apes, which was based on the 1963 French novel La Planète des singes by Pierre Boulle. The original five films of the series were “Planet of the Apes” (1968), “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” (1970), “Escape From the Planet of the Apes” (1971), “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” (1972) and “Battle for the Planet of the Apes” (1973) - Then came Planet of the Apes (2001), a reboot by Tim Burton which was met with “Meh” across the entire planet. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), a movie that surprised everyone by being really good. The sequel is due for release in 2014 titled “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”.
